Funchal Airport is just 20 kilometres from the city of Funchal. Via the VE1 and VR1, you can be in the city centre within 20 minutes. On the way, you'll pass beautiful ocean views and charming villages that will immediately put you in the holiday mood.
From Funchal Airport, you can easily drive to other interesting places. Take the VE2 to Porto Moniz, known for its natural pools in volcanic rock. This drive takes about 1.5 hours. Or drive north on the ER101 to Santana, famous for its traditional, colourful houses with thatched roofs. This drive takes about an hour and offers beautiful views of the mountains and coastline.
Madeira's road network is modern and well-maintained, but roads can be narrow and winding, especially in the mountains. Bear in mind steep gradients and sharp bends. Drive carefully and enjoy the beautiful views along the way.
