Lanzarote Airport, also known as César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, is the main gateway to the island. The airport handles more than 7 million passengers annually and has two terminals. Both domestic flights to other Canary Islands and international flights to European destinations depart from here. Thanks to its efficient layout, you can quickly pick up your rental car and start your adventure.
The airport is just 5 kilometres from Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. Via the LZ-2 you can be in the centre within 10 minutes. On the way, you can already see the extraordinary volcanic landscape and the typical white houses that are so characteristic of the island. A relaxing start to your holiday!
With your rental car, you can easily explore other parts of the island. If you drive south on the LZ-2, you will reach the cosy Playa Blanca in about 30 minutes. This route takes you past the impressive Timanfaya National Park. If you head north on the LZ-1, you'll be in Costa Teguise, a popular resort with beautiful beaches and quaint shops, within 20 minutes.
Lanzarote's roads are well maintained and the island has an orderly road network. Main roads are wide and comfortable, but in rural areas roads can be narrower and more winding. Always be alert to cyclists and walkers, especially in busy areas.
A compact car is ideal for exploring Lanzarote. However, if you want more comfort, an SUV is a good choice. It offers extra stability and space, especially if you are travelling with the whole family or have a lot of luggage.
Lanzarote has a mild climate all year round, with temperatures rarely falling below 20°C. The best time to visit the island is from April to October, when the weather is ideal for beach days and outdoor activities.
