Faro Airport is just 6 kilometres from the centre of Faro. The drive to the city takes about 10 minutes via the N125 or the IC4. On the way, you can enjoy the beautiful coastline and the typical white houses of the Algarve. Once in Faro, explore the historic city centre, full of charming streets and cosy squares.
From Faro Airport, you can easily drive to other major cities in Portugal. Lisbon, the vibrant capital, is about 2.5 hours away via the A2 toll road. During the drive, you'll pass through the beautiful Alentejo region, known for its vineyards and cork trees. Another interesting destination is Porto, reachable in about 5 hours via the A2 and A1. On the way, you can stop in Coimbra, a city full of history and culture.
Portugal's road network is of good quality. It consists mainly of highways (autoestrada), whose names always begin with the letter A. Many highways are subject to tolls.
If you mainly want to make short trips to the supermarket or have a coffee at a local café, the Small or Economy category will suffice. Do you plan to cover long distances along the Portuguese coast or through the interior? Then some extra legroom is recommended and you should go for the Compact category.
